I am geocacher and have yet to find a letterbox, but fully intend to
take the kids out to find one this year. Still trying to decide what
to do for a stamp.
At any rate, I thought I'd share a story from a geocaching experience
we recently had. I finally found someone in the geocaching community
that knew what this was and have since added it to the waymarking.com
site, but I thought many of you letterboxers that have yet to see one
of these might be intrigued as well.
Here is our story:

Also, if you are interested in seeing more similar doors here is a
link with a few:

Oh these are so cool! Love the playful, fairy-tale feel they invoke. I see there are several in the Ann Arbor, MI area... I may have to make a trip there to look them up. Really love the craftmanship of the one at the Ark -- I have been there several times over the years and was totally oblivious to a wee folk fairy door.
Other than the one at Gray's Lake, which made the Des Moines paper, there is no indication given of what might be inside the doors, if anything. Or perhaps is that part of the intrigue?
Hmmmm... thinking of possibilities...
